Since humans first gazed skywards eclipses have become one of the few universal moments of awe on our planet, representing a higher power, a life cycle that inspires and mystifies. Scientists, dreamers, explorers have all felt the magical pull of these events, chasing around the world to experience the primal power of these fleeting moments.
Today exactly one year to the minute ahead of the 2017 Oregon Eclipse, Symbiosis Gathering has confirmed the dates of the 2017 Gathering and released footage showing the 55,000 acre pristine wilderness site. This will be the first total solar eclipse to take place in North America since 1979. Oregon will be the only state on the West Coast to experience the full solar eclipse, a truly once in a lifetime moment for most.
2017 will see Symbiosis Gathering call upon leading members of the international festival community to co-produce Oregon Eclipse 2017. The Oregon site will provide an incredible backdrop for this majestic event, an unmatched festival location. After scouring the West Coast for more than five years Symbiosis have a location that combines a 52 acre swimmable freshwater lake, rolling hills, wooded groves and a vast grassy plain – an idyllic container for the music, art, exploration and education that has come to define the Symbiosis experience.
Symbiosis has a history with Eclipses, having held two events in 2012 – Eclipse 2012 in Australia and Pyramid Eclipse near Reno – to coincide with partial eclipses. In Kevin KoChen of Symbiosis Gathering’s own words, “there are some amazing things to see in the world, from works of art, vistas on mountaintops, or underwater preserves. But nothing can prepare you for the majestic spectacle of a total solar eclipse”.
This announcement comes just a month before Symbiosis Gathering’s Family Tree to be held on Woodward Reservoir for the last time September 22-25.
