It’s almost that time of year folks. In two weeks, Northern Nights Music Festival celebrates its 3rd outing on the Eel River at Cook’s Valley Campground in Piercy, CA at the Humboldt/Mendocino border on July 17-19. This was one of our favorite festivals last year, and needless to say, we’re ecstatic to be going back.
What sets Northern Nights apart from many other festivals is its intimacy and its stunningly beautiful venue. It’s not too often that you get to camp under towering redwoods while playing and swimming at a stage by a river all day and then dancing the night away in the forest to live performances from the likes of Black Star, The Polish Ambassador, Slow Magic, and Gold Panda. In each of its three years, Northern Nights has blown us away with lineups that don’t follow the expected cookie-cutter patterns of other West Coast festival lineups. RÜFÜS DU SOL, Gold Panda, and Black Star especially are surprising and exciting standouts this year. For a festival so new to continually book such high caliber artists to perform in such an intimate festival environment is impressive. These guys know what they’re doing.
On that note, we can’t wait to see what the Northern Nights crew has up their sleeves for 2015. It’s only their third year, but they have plans to do it big, and if last year was any indication, than this year’s festival is going to be freaking epic. There will be more art, more music, more to do– just more Northern Nights, and that is extremely exciting. Northern Nights also plans to stay true to its roots by inviting plenty of local talent to take the decks and keep us dancing by the river. One such local talent is Humboldt’s own Jsun Paul aka Jsun, who will keep us entranced by his deep, tech-house grooves. We are proud to premiere an exclusive Northern Nights 2015 Mix from Jsun. Humboldt is known for its bass music scene, but that doesn’t mean us tech-heads won’t be fully satisfied by the river this year. Check out the mix below, and we’ll see you on the river soon!
